Learn moreWhen running power to a distant wellhead costs a fortune, a solar pump lets the sun do the pumping instead.
A solar well pump runs your well on sunlight instead of grid power. The system is straightforward: solar panels feed a controller, and that controller drives a solar-compatible submersible pump down in the well. When the sun is up, the pump runs and moves water; there is no monthly electric bill at the wellhead and no power line to bury. For a remote well on Hill Country acreage, that can be the difference between a working water source and one that sits idle because the utility quote came back too high.

Out here, wells often sit hundreds of yards from the nearest power, on a back pasture, a hilltop, or a separate tract from the house. Trenching electrical service to a far-off wellhead gets expensive fast, and sometimes it simply is not practical across rugged limestone country. That is exactly where solar shines. Because the sun does not pump at night or under heavy clouds, we almost always pair a solar pump with a storage tank, so the pump fills the tank on sunny days and you draw a steady supply through the evening and the occasional gray stretch.
TR has drilled and serviced Hill Country wells since 1985, and we install and service solar pump systems the same way we do everything else: with one trusted crew and an honest assessment of whether solar is actually the right call for your site. We size the panels, controller, and pump to your specific well and your household demand, not a one-size-fits-all kit. If grid power is close and affordable, we will tell you that too. If the numbers and the geography point to solar, we will build it to last. Have questions? Reach out and we will talk it through.

Request a QuoteCall (830) 816-3232We look at your well's depth and output, how far it sits from power, and your daily water needs to see whether solar makes sense for the location.
We match the solar panels, controller, and solar-compatible submersible pump to your well and household, then plan storage to cover nights and cloudy days.
Our crew sets the panels, wires the controller, drops the pump, and ties it into a storage tank so you have a reliable reserve.
We test the system, show you how it runs, and come back for maintenance or repair whenever you need us, the same local crew every time.
It has three main parts: solar panels, a controller, and a solar-compatible submersible pump set down in the well. The panels collect sunlight, the controller manages that power and feeds it to the pump, and the pump lifts water out of the well while the sun is up. Because there is no grid connection at the wellhead, there is no electric bill and no power line to run. We almost always pair the system with a storage tank so you have water available at night and on cloudy days.
Solar usually wins when the wellhead is a long way from existing power, on a back tract, a hilltop, or acreage separate from the house. Trenching and running electrical service over a long distance through Hill Country limestone can cost far more than a solar setup, and sometimes it is not practical at all. If grid power is close and the connection is affordable, a conventional pump may be the better value. We will look at your specific site and give you an honest recommendation before you spend anything. If financing helps, ask us about financing.
A solar pump only runs when the sun is producing enough power, so it will not pump at night or during heavy cloud cover. That is why we pair almost every solar system with a storage tank. The pump fills the tank during sunny hours and builds a reserve, then you draw from that stored water in the evening and through gray stretches. Sizing the tank to your daily use is a key part of how we design the system.
Yes. We install and service solar pump systems, and the same local crew that builds it stands behind it for maintenance and repair. If the pump, controller, or panels need attention, we come out and handle it. Just call us at (830) 816-3232.
In many cases, yes. We can often fit a solar-compatible submersible pump and the right panel and controller setup to a well you already have, as long as the well's depth and output suit a solar system. We will review your well first and size everything to it. If you are planning a brand-new well on remote land, we can drill it and set it up for solar from the start; see water well drilling.
