Well water out here is generally excellent, but the same limestone and minerals that make the Hill Country beautiful can leave their mark on your water. The good news: almost every common complaint has a straightforward fix once you know the cause.
Iron and manganese (rust stains)
Reddish-brown staining on fixtures and laundry usually means iron; dark specks point to manganese. Both are common and treatable. A spray bar in a storage tank lets a lot of the iron oxidize and settle out, and dedicated filtration handles the rest.

Sulfur (the rotten-egg smell)
That unmistakable rotten-egg odor is hydrogen sulfide. Aeration (again, a storage tank with a spray bar helps) lets the sulfur gas escape, and filtration or treatment can finish the job so your water smells clean.
Hard water (scale and spots)
Scale on faucets, spotty dishes, and soap that won't lather are signs of hard water, which is very common over Hill Country limestone. A water softener is the standard fix and protects your plumbing and appliances over time.
Sediment and cloudiness
Grit or cloudiness can come from the well itself or from a problem down the line. It's worth diagnosing rather than just filtering, since it can point to a casing or screen issue. Our repair team can pinpoint the source.
Start with a test
Before treating anything, test your water so you're solving the real problem. See our water testing guide for what to check, and fold it into a yearly maintenance visit. Ask us what would work best for your water.
